Frederick James Cox was born in Queensland in about 1845 and moved presumably with his family, to the Hinton/Morpeth area.
He married Mary Ann Battiss Ford on 30th August 1864 at St John's Church Hinton. At that time they were both under 21. Frederick was employed as a sawyer at Eskdale, Williams River and Mary lived at Rove Bank, Hinton. Frederick's parents were Frederick and Margaret (Fitzgerald) Cox but I have no further inforamtion on them. I am interested in any information on Cox families in the Morpeth/Hinton area in the 1860s

I am looking for information on the Gunters and the Cundys who lived in the Aberdeen / Scone area from about 1858 to 1875. They later moved to the Nundle /Tamworth area but some descendents may have stayed in the Valley.
My great grandfather, Robert Thomas Gunter, was born in Gundy in 1874. His parents were Henry James Gunter and Mary Jane Cundy. Does anybody have any information that might help me . Cheers, Brian (Narooma, NSW)

I am researching my wifes family and I have found a strong link to Scone, her G/Gfather Henry Costigan and his brother,Denis George Cositigan were in Scone in !866,Denis married Charlotte French in Muswellbrook in 1867 and another Costigan,Patrick married Hannah Cummins in Scone in1882.
Henry and Denis moved to the Walcha Area by !872.Their father came to Australia with the !!th Regiment in 1847 and could have been based in the Hunter but on leaving the Army became a music teacher in Balmain. The question is "Why are the Costigans in Scone in the 1860's?" |

Hi
I stumbled accross an ad in a newspaper asking Ann Fitzgerald (convict originally) to contact a specific postoffice as there is something she will here to her benifit. The ad listed her first place of convict labour in Sydney followed by being posted to Mrs Kelmon of the famous Kirkton Vineyard. I then stumbled accross a marriage for her (not my line) to a John Shannon in 1833 Newcastle (Christ Church Cathedral) but cannot find any details of this man dying etc.. Ann is also known as Mary Ann possibly and was illiterate. Does anyone know anything about this pair Ann remarries and lives in Goulburn with a Charles Payne and has many children. Thanks

William Clarke is my fourth great grandfather and was transported to Australia on the "Fortune" in 1806. I have some conflicting evidence regarding where he is buried. Some records state that he died in 1848 and is buried at St Matthews C of E Windsor whereas the family history book states he died at Cockfighter Creek and was buried on 30/3/1846, performed by the Rev. Francis Cameron. at Whittingham C of E cemetery, but this was destroyed in floods of 1955. Can anyone shed any light as to which information would be correct?

Hi, My relative Patrick Fagan, a ex-convict,who lived in William St East Maitland, and was buried in Hiland Crescent Cemetary East Maitland. I have heaps of information on him but until I "walked" the route from his street to the Hiland Cres Cemetary using "Streetview" I couldn't get a grasp of the locations. I had a couple of photos of Hiland Cemetary but I can now see exactly how it fits into the streetscape. East Maitland looks like a nice place:)

Hi,
I am looking for any information on a William New/Newe in West Maitland NSW, unsure of his birth or death dates. We had always thought my grt x grandparents were married, we were quite surprised to find they weren't. They were living in West Maitland NSW and had a total of 8 children. Two of whom died at a young age. William New/Newe is a mystery man. He is not on any of the childrens birth certificates, and on neither of the infants death certificates. The family were living in High Street Maitland for a number of the childrens births from about 1885-1894. The only time I have been able to find William New/Newe on any records is in the 1930 Australian Electoral Rolls. Living at 35 Hannon/Hannan St West Maitland NSW with two of his children. Julia Ann Hannan died from burns in a housefire in 1927. If anyone has information about my mysterious grt x 2 grandfather and can help in anyway please get in contact. Aussielost in the UK |

Martin Donohoe arrived in Australia in 1833 on the portland. I dont know anything about the years, up until 1841, when he was part of the group that captured the Jew boys gang near Scone. I think he was a servant to William Damaresq. For his help he was granted a pardon. There is some evidence he owned a pub in Denman and was involved in horse racing, owning a horse called Victor.
It is all very clear from the time of his son William, who worked and lived on Martindale station,as did his son Victor, my grandfather. What is not clear is what happened between his pardon and his death and how the next two generations ended up living and working on Martindale. Any help would be appreciated.

Apart from Hillary Fallins' book "Happenings under Belmont" and the Heritage study, I can't find anything. Can anyone help me? I am also trying to buy a copy of Fallins' book. I have borrowed a copy from the library but would love one of my own.
