Manly Quarantine stattion website:

1837 - The "Lady McNaughton" was quarantined for typhus. There were 444 people on board - 54 people had died of typhus on the journey to Sydney. 13 more died in quarantine. A burial ground was established above Quarantine Beach. Three weatherboard buildings were erected at Little Manly Beach to house the sick so that the ship could be properly cleaned. The passengers were in quarantine for 11 weeks in miserable conditions.Soon those three original buildings were moved to Quarantine Beach.
The Quarantine Station grounds were extended to include the whole of North Head.

Patrick Died 9 Jan 1859 of Bronchitis at Monkerai. The family then moved to Ding a Dee owned by the Hooke family, where Pat junior was living already.
Margaret Daley nee McNamara married Cornelius Ryan of Hanleys Creek Dungog in 1862. They had no children of their own but Jane Daley did appear to live with this family as she was witness at her stepsisters wedding. After Cornelius's death in 1882 it may be that Margaret McNamara found herself in difficult circumstances as she was left nothing in the will of Cornelius Ryan. She put a cavet on the will but was unsuccessful in contesting it. Interestingly her daughter Jane Daley joined the sisters of the Good Samaritans whose mission was to assist the destiture women of the streets of Sydney.Perhaps they were taken in by the church??

Not sure whether this will actually create a reply to Mary-Anne's posting about this marriage. For what it's worth, I am a descendant of William & Margaret through their son, James Albert. Their marriage certificate states that Margaret was born at Buchanan, NSW. Various certificates of the children show her as being born at Brooks Flat, which I understand was another name for Buchanan. I am interested in the info about Margaret being born 15 May 1840 at the Upper Williams River as I have found no record of this. The family has a copy of a baptism certif which shows parents as James & Ellen but this always seemed strange to me as it is registered in Sydney. I recently found a record of a William Watson as a contributor to the Donegal Relief Fund at Williams River in 1859. I can find no record of Jane Daly/Daley's death in 1851 on the NSW BMDs, unless James Is a misprint for Jane. I have not yet investigated my Margaret's family but I have collected info on William Watson, whose history before his marriage in 1863 is something of a mystery. Perhaps someone else has info on him & his arrival in Australia.
