John Davis was a convict, he was a street robber who was sentenced to 14 years in 1928 and had no other convictions at the time. He was transported to sydney on the Bussorah Merchant'. All data gained on John was from the 'permission for convicts to marry dated 1840. Born in 1807 he was 5'5'' brown hair and complexion and single at the time of his sentence. According to convict records he could read and write but his signature in the church in Scone was very poor. He was 21 at the time of convection and 33 when he got his ticket of leave. Permission for him to marry Mercy Ann Baker was granted on the 14-10-1840. He was transported to aust. in October 1828. He was working for a landowner name H C Semphill Of Invermein and absonded and when he was caught he had a certific of freedom belonging to another man on him. While a prisioner he resided at prisioners Barracks at Liverpool..Mercy Ann was 15 at the time they married, she was a free settler and had her parents permission. Together they had 4 children. Merys mother s name was also Mercy and fathers name Richard. She was born in 1826 in Kent England and could not read or write. I cannot find out where either died or when or anything on their parents. They lived around Scone, Maitland and for a time believed to manage the Currabubla Hotel in 1847. Any further information on John or Mercy would be much appreiated Thanking You Sue
